“Guldensporensplash” 700 Years of the Battle of the Golden Spurs
700 Years of the Battle of the Golden Spurs
No knights. No nostalgia. Just a bold, poetic journey through 700 years of Flemish spirit.
Guldensporensplash reimagined the legacy of the 1302 Battle of the Golden Spurs with a large-scale public spectacle on the banks of the River Leie, in the air and on the water — witnessed by over 15,000 spectators.
This historical evocation told the story of a people’s struggle for freedom, their rise through materialism and industrial growth, and their ultimate rediscovery of purpose and identity through enlightenment and awareness.
A show of light, sound, fire, and emotion — not to glorify the past, but to reflect on what makes a society truly free.
